25/50 Exhibition Planned by Artist Gordon Huether

Opening Saturday, July 18, 25/50 is a series of 25 art pieces created by Gordon Huether in observation of his 50th birthday and in celebration of his 25-year career.

“I’ve spent the last 25 years focusing on large-scale commissioned work. Mid-career, I started becoming frustrated with the time between the conception of a piece and the two to three years it took to be installed. This frustration led me to start working on a more intimate scale,” says Huether. “Working on a smaller scale gives me the opportunity for more immediate artistic gratification. It is an opportunity for exploration, self-discovery and the telling of stories through a multitude of materials.”

Huether says the work in his 25/50 exhibition was inspired by the effects that nature has on man-made materials, such as the rusty patterns observed in deteriorating metal.
“These materials, translated into works of art, serve as a reminder of the temporal nature of man’s achievements and the awe-inspiring forces of nature,” Huether adds.

The exhibition reception is open to the public and will feature the 25/50 collection, as well as other recent works. The event is scheduled for Saturday, July 18, 2009, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Gordon Huether Studio in Napa, Calif.
