Cancer Center Features Decorative Combination of Glass and Graphics

Jul 24th, 2009 | By | Category: Industry News

Rudy Art Glass Studio located in York, Pa., was hired by the facilities department of Peninsula Regional Medical Center to fabricate and install a turnkey 24-foot tall glass and metal feature wall for the hospital’s newly constructed Richard A. Henson Cancer Institute. The wall concept was originally designed by Becker Morgan Group in Salisbury, Md., and the graphics team at Rudy Art Glass, including an in-house graphic designer and Tim Hirniesen, a fine artist, created the original artwork for the wall. The wall feature incorporates professional photographs of regional images taken by photographer David Harp.

The artwork was converted into high-resolution digital images to accommodate the large wall size. Next, imagery was printed onto backlit photo film split across multiple panels and each panel was fabricated with a tempered/laminated construction.

Rudy Art Glass partnered with a local metal fabricator, Patrick Sells of Salvaging Creativity, who worked with the fabrication team to design and create the entire metal frame using CAD technology.

In addition, Rudy Art Glass sourced and provided all of the lighting elements, which were built into the wall frame as well.

The entire wall–glass, metal, and lighting-was assembled on-site at the Institute.
