Discovery Channel to Feature One Company’s Decorative Glass Production Process

Kokomo Opalescent Glass (KOG) in Kokomo, Ind., will be featured on “How Stuff Is Made,” a new Discovery Channel show that is expected to air this fall. A crew from High Noon Entertainment, producers of the show, spent last Friday at KOG filming the sheet glass production process.

According to an article in the Kokomo Tribune, the film crew arrived at the factory around 4 a.m. Friday and started filming at 5 a.m. Earlier in the week they went to St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Zionsville to film windows made with the company’s glass.

KOG has been in operation since 1888 and Louis Comfort Tiffany was one of its earliest customers. Celebrities including Steven Spielberg, Randy Travis, Billy Joel and Elton John all have Kokomo glass in their homes, reported the Kokomo Tribune.

“The experience is great on so many levels. First, the production company is so professional, friendly, and thorough,” Anne Elliott, KOG’s marketing manager told DG magazine. “They are masters at conveying the pictures worth a thousand words. They provide an opportunity to reach people we would otherwise never have contact with.”

Elliott added, “We are a proud, American workforce happy to be surviving in a difficult time. In a community and country so driven by the downturn in the automotive industry, our story is a headline of hope and good news. We are grateful to be able to share that news with viewers of the Discovery Channel.

  1. Your work is incredible. I’m curious about the photo shoot. Can you tel me who the production company was and how you found them?

I represent a company who makes solvents for adhesives and they’d like to have a piece aired on Discovery about how that’s made. We are in Ohio so possibly the same production crew could help.
