Sans Soucie Art Glass Studios Inc., based in Palm Desert, Calif., recently provided more than 4,000 square feet of custom carved, textured glass for three separate areas inside New York’s Bank of America Tower (1 Bryant Park).

The company competed with bidders from all over the world before winning what would be its largest project to date.Brooklyn, N.Y.-based contract glazier David Schuldiner Inc., commissioned Sans Soucie to create glass for three locations: suspended over the main desk, as an accent in the elevator lobby and as the ceiling in the secondary lobby. The design was applied to Starphire® clear glass, with one surface sand carved approximately 1/16-inch deep with a detailed, complex texture that simulated a tree bark effect. The background area of the glass was acid etched. In total, the job called for 359 pieces of glass, adding up to 4,065 square feet of carved glass.

New York architectural firm Cook+Fox designed the Bank of America Tower to be an ecologically friendly skyscraper. It is the second tallest building in New York.
